It was another good day for nestorations with Jackie and Shadow adding 6 sticks to the nest today! During the early morning hours, we hear the vocals of a Northern Saw-whet owl whistling! Saw-whets give whines, guttural sounds, high tssst calls, squeaks, and high-pitched barks. The N Saw-whet are very small with large, rounded heads that lack ear tufts. Their length is 7.1-8.3 in ~ weight: 2.3-5.3 oz ~ Wingspan: 16.5-18.9 in. Here is an interesting article with clips on the sounds of the owl.
Jackie brings in 5 sticks and Shadow 1 today as they continue to build their castle of sticks! Jackie is heard panting when she flies in with stick #5 at 16:38. She also brings in the last stick of the evening right at dusk. Thank you for watching!
