Driving through Chitradurga NH4 in Karnataka which overlooks the historic Chitradurga Fort. Vehicles ply the highway as the large span of the fort in the background houses a number of windmills. The legend of Onake Obavva originated in this fort. The legend goes that when Hyder Ali and his troops were trying to besiege the fort, Hyder Ali saw Obavva slipping in and out of the hole and tried to sneak in his soldiers. Obavva killed his soldiers one after the other when they were slipping into the fort through the hole she had used to slip inside earlier using a wooden club for pounding rice called Onake. The story of Onake Obavva is famous among the women of the region to this day as is the rock opening which bore witness to the legend.
