Mushroom hunting is fun and exciting, especially when you have an encounter like this! We found three delicious edibles within a few feet of each other: hedgehogs (Hydnum repandum), winter chanterelles (Cantharellus tubaeformis = Craterellus tubaeformis) and pine/matsutakes (Tricholoma magnivelare).
.
Nature’s abundance from intact ecosystems should not be underestimated...Not only are my culinary desires satisfied, but the endorphin rush of spontaneous discovery – the eureka moment – brings out the child-like wonder of why the mushroom hunting life is so wonderful.
.
I wish that all of you share in these types of moments - especially with friends and family.
I have had many elderly people tell me that their most precious memories is mushroom hunting as a child with their family. Once you find a patch like this, these mushrooms will likely fruit over many years. Family mushroom patches are guarded secrets amongst many, in particular in Europe, Eurasia, the Far East. Latin America, North America…..ok,….I concede: Everywhere!
