The Amargosa River flows through the hottest, driest part of the Mojave Desert, mostly underground -- but comes to the surface near the town of Tecopa, where it forms an amazing secret tropical oasis swimming hole hidden in the middle of a very harsh desert landscape! My friends and I hiked along the river from the China Ranch date farm, along the old, long-abandoned T&T Railroad grade, all the way to the Death Valley Brewery in Tecopa for a beer...and then a final stop at the hot spring for a relaxing soak. Historic ruins, tropical paradise, beer and hot springs -- this is one of the all-time greatest hikes in the Death Valley area!
