WH: Trump wants a trial 'sooner rather than later'

WH: Trump wants a trial 'sooner rather than later' (10 Dec 2019) White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley reacts after House Democrats announced two articles of impeachment Tuesday against President Donald Trump — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — pushing toward historic votes over charges he threatened the integrity of the U.S. election system and endangered national security in his dealings with Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters at the White House Tuesday, Gidley said "it's pretty clear the president wants a trial " and everyone knows "the process is unfair."  "The president always is encouraged or wants the administration to testify because the president's done nothing wrong. He has nothing to hide."

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the chairmen of the impeachment inquiry committees, declared at the U.S. Capitol that they were upholding their solemn oath to defend the Constitution.

Gidley said that the "president did nothing wrong" and the Democrats are "moving forward without proof."

"So this was predetermined from the outset," Gidley told reporters.

Voting is expected in a matter of days in the Judiciary Committee and by Christmas in the full House.

Trump swiftly responded in a capital-letters tweet with the words he uses repeatedly to decry the investigations against him: "WITCH HUNT!"
