People can be incredibly cruel. Sometimes it’s one thing after another and when someone’s coming after you, it’s easy to take on a victim mentality.
But here’s a thought. Jesus died and rose again to give you victory. Be of good cheer, He said, for I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
So, Jesus died and rose again to make you a victor, not a victim. But when you’re feeling victimised, it’s not easy to live your life in victory. Well, here’s where God has a solution. It comes to us through the Apostle Paul:
Galatians 1:10 Now do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No, God is the one I am trying to please. Am I trying to please people? If I wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
A great many of the things that press in on us aren’t real. They’re based on the imperfect and often unreasonable expectations of others. And all too often, we have an unhealthy regard for what those other people think.
Look, every day, I set out to do my best for Jesus … not always perfectly, mind you. Sometimes that pleases people, other times they hurl criticism my way. Now if I did something wrong, I fix it. But most times, that’s not it.
Most times, it’s other people projecting their imperfections on me. And to tell you the truth, since I’ve stopped caring about what they think, they’ve lost their power to overwhelm me.
In any case, if I wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
