This is deceptively solid play, and a win. I don't think very much about this will strike people as particularly amazing, particularly not if they're PC players, and yet, here I am uploading it, and I want to talk about why. See, almost all my uploads are PS4. Not PC. I've received the ultimate console Widowmaker compliment several times ("PRESS TRIANGLE TO ULT?! CONSOLE?!?! HOW?!?!?!?!") and it always makes me happy because, well, console Widowmaker, right?
But interface type matters. There are whole classes of shots which aren't super common on PC/mouse-and-keyboard, but which are PS4 (and XBOX? I don't know) staples. And meanwhile, the most common PC Widowmaker shot - the short to medium twitch - is not the bulk of Widowmaker play on PS4, because sticks are kind of shit for that compared to a mouse.
So PS4 players do a lot of different kinds of shooting as a result.
This is why I go onto PC with a game controller and find it's sometimes _easier_ to hit things by throwing myself into the air than it is staying on the ground, because it changes the _type of shot_ from medium or short twitch to, oh, geometric fall timing. So I'll be on PC in a dual with somebody, miss a twitch or two, say fukkit, and launch myself into the air and kill the enemy with a parabolic timing shot instead, because it's _easier_. That, in turn, is that's why I can reliably finish top 4 in PC Deathmatch as a controller Widowmaker, because PC Deathmatch has a lot more of those kinds of opportunities than does regular play.
But in this particular game, I'm taking a lot of PC-platform/mouse-and-keyboard style shots, just because that's how it played out, and I'm not just hitting them, I'm hitting them _reliably_, with sticks. I've really been working on trying to improve my work with those, and at least here... maybe that work is starting to pay off.
