2018 YWCA of Charleston WV - Women of Achievement Awards

2018 YWCA of Charleston WV - Women of Achievement Awards The YWCA of Charleston, West Virginia announced its five women earning recognition from the organization, which has hosted its Women of Achievement Awards Ceremony for 22 years.
The five women receiving recognition are philanthropic leader Missy Rubin; Medical Director of the Charleston Area Medical Center Family Resource Center Dr. R. Jenee Walker; FestivALL Executive Director Brittany Javins; Whitney Breckenridge; and the late Jan Vineyard, former lobbyist and president of the West Virginia Oil Marketers and Grocers Association.
The women were honored during the 2018 YWCA Women of Achievement Awards Ceremony at noon on March 2, 2018, at Embassy Suites in Charleston.
“This year’s selections are incredible,” Kim Burton, chairwoman of the event, said in the news release. “People always wonder how we can find gems in our community year after year, and I am happy to report our committee has selected another class of honorees that is sure to inspire us all.”
Walker has practiced at the center for 17 years as a psychiatrist. She serves as a clinical faculty member for the West Virginia University School of Medicine Health Center, and she has facilitated support groups for parents who have lost children.
She has traveled across the country with Essence Magazine and African American Women on Tour addressing mental health topics, and a story of Walker’s was published in Chicken Soup of the African American Woman’s Soul. She also published a book, “Good Night Beautiful Mother,” which was illustrated by her daughter, in 2017.
