English 2010 Final Presentation, School Improvement Project: Math Tutoring at BHS

English 2010 Final Presentation, School Improvement Project: Math Tutoring at BHS In this presentation I explore the benefits of math tutoring at Brighton High School. Why is there a need for tutoring in educational institutions? Where and when would the tutoring take place? How could the new tutoring program benefit both teachers and students? All these questions and more are addressed in the presentation. This presentation was made for the English 2010 concurrent enrollment class at Brighton High School. Through my research, I found the impact individualized tutoring can have on grades and test scores of the students. Struggling students who receive tutoring from their teachers/professors generally achieve higher scores on final tests and/or final grades than struggling students who did not receive tutoring. Giving the student base at Brighton high school a formal tutoring program for their educational needs will, in turn create a more positive learning environment and raise the school average GPA. During my project I found math teachers at Brighton were consistently overloaded with their personal work load (especially grading) along with a constant flow of students entering the classroom for extra help on an assignment. Some teachers have more students coming in their classrooms before/after school than others, creating an environment where some teacher cannot get important work finished. Noticing this detail, I found it would be best for teachers of a given subject to split up the days they would tutor in order for them to get their work done and still have time for students.
