How to climb Murekløve (WI4) in Hemsedal in Norway | Ice Climbing Vlog Ep. 49

How to climb Murekløve (WI4) in Hemsedal in Norway | Ice Climbing Vlog Ep. 49 Murekløve is one of the many great WI4 ice climbing routes in Hemsedal in Norway. And it is a great warm up for the more serious ice climbs in Hemsedal.

So, keep watching if you want to learn more about Murekløve and maybe get a few tips that will help you along the way. Such as how to find the ice climbing route, breakdown of the different pitches, what ice climbing gear to bring, and how to get down safely again.

First of all, Murekløve at WI4, is 150 meters long and can be climbed in three long pitches.

You will find Murekløve by driven about 2 kilometers into the Grøndalen valley from Hemsedal. Park at the small parking lot, where you see a couple of signs that say Muren, Nystølen and Bjørkely. This can be a bit hard to spot from the car, so I have put the coordinates in the description below.

The coordinates for the parking lot are: 60°53'50.6"N 8°26'51.8"E

This is also were you would park if you want to climb the classical Nystølfossen at WI5, which is just next to Murekløve. You can spot the Murekløve through the forrest, and you should just follow whatever path seems most natural.

We climbed Murekløve in three pitches at about 50 meters each. Murekløve is a broad ice field, so you can choose different variations based on the conditions and how challenging you want the climb to be. The first pitch is pretty steep and is definitely the crux of Murekløve. The second pitch slabs and Murekløve generally eases from there. I would say that the rest of the route it WI3. The third pitch starts with a slab, and then steepens towards the end. And you should set up a belay from one of the trees.

For ice climbing Murekløve in Hemsedal in Norway we brought 14 ice screws, 12 quickdraws and two 60 meters half ropes.
