U.K. Health Minister Brian Hancock warned Thursday that the weeks ahead would be “tough” as the country worked to stem the spread of COVID-19, but said the government was not planning to shut down schools and universities because of the “huge social and economic cost.” Hancock said there would be no clinical or epidemiological benefit to cancelling large public events as long as people undertake basic hygiene measures.
