Taking spinal movement for a walk... Many people enjoy taking a walk. in fact, if one keeps in mind a few principles such as the various ways of how the spine moves, walking can be an excellent workout and in some cases, as good as a yoga session. Walking involves the spine in more ways than most of us think: each weight shifting not only causes a slight flexion and extension but also lateral lengthening and axial rotation, that's the whole spectrum of spinal movement!

In this video, after a set of Yoga Synergy spinal movement, I continued with a waving spinal movement involving spinal flexion and extension and moved into space with one foot at a time. Notice the flexion and extension of the spinal need to occur alternately on opposite sides: right side flexion and then left side extension to bring the left foot forward and so on.

This seemingly disciplined movement actually brings a sense of freedom and might lead to a dance that is both invigorating and fun!
