Wolf Gods: the wolf in mythology and religions from ancient to modern times (education)

Wolf Gods: the wolf in mythology and religions from ancient to modern times (education) Wolves and humans co-existed in peace for millennia, in many societies around the world, until the wolf became more and more 'demonized' and misunderstood. In ancient times, the wolf was even a god in many religions, like a creator god, or a protector. There are lots of ancient wolf deities, like Anubis and Wepwawet in ancient Egypt, or the 'wolf-born' Greek gods Apollo and Artemis. Wolves play an essential role in many mythologies, like the role of the she-wolf who saved Rome's founding fathers, Romulus and Remus.
In North America, the wolf was essential in many societies until western societies destroyed the 'native' cultures and killed the wolves. And in Japan, we still find shrines today that are dedicated to wolf deities.

This is just a short overview of the wolf in mythology and religions across time from ancient to modern times. The aim is to provide a more positive view of the wolves to counteract the horror fairy-tales, like the Red Riding Hood...
