Paying attention is a step beyond just showing up. Paying attention means listening. It is listening to yourself and to others. It’s being observant and discerning in our responses. Someone who is struggling to pay attention struggles to know what is going on when they are showing up. They don’t know why, and they are focusing more on themselves than on the present around them. People challenged with paying attention are reacting, not responding. To pay attention requires patience and trust. Do not worry about what you need to do, just observe and listen first.
