The Defence Headquarters has said that the Operation Positive Identification (OPI), which is slated to begin today, is meant to flush out “foreign combatants infiltrating our borders and conducting attacks” and would, therefore, focus mainly on bandits and criminal elements. The Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, has also stated that the OPI would not hinder the day-to-day activities of Nigerians. Among those who have voiced criticism of the operation are Femi Falana (SAN), Nigerian Bar Associations and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights.
