Making a spindle & hearth from gathered sycamore tree branches for friction fire. I made the deer rawhide bowstring from a bow hunt & also the stone pecked bearing block. This is my very first time ever using sycamore for friction fire. I was able to get a nice ember on the first spin. The sycamore tree is a very common species found in riparian habitats here in Ohio.
