In this episode I'm hunting a small portion of the woods with a surprising outcome. I prefer "quiet" places, away from historical events. This time, the woods I wanted to visit "happen" to witness a battle (between the French and Prussian army) that took place at the end of 18th century.
I don't know the details, but I would assume it took place on an open field (although it probably is well documented).
I was very surprised with the amount of finds ("left behind"). The spot I hunted was actually very small. I'm sure, with a more stable (and deeper) detector, it would be possible to make more finds.
At some point I was even wondering, if the musket balls were "notched out" on purpose by previous detectorists. Maybe the particular spot I have chosen was not "branded" with military movements and therefore not of great interest (compared with other areas). I think, I will have to do some research...
I think, it was a good hunt. It always is more pleasant to find something, when the expectations are very low.
Thanks for watching!
P.s. I hope it wasn't too boring because of all the musket balls.
