Let’s get started with intel. We’ve had tons of leaks left and right about their upcoming 10th gen comet lake S desktop processors. And while the increase in clock speeds has been impressive, maybe a little less impressive than the TDP increases, but despite that, the only thing we really need to judge those cpu’s is the price. I mean we already know what the clocks will be like, the core counts, the features, and since the architecture has been the same for a long time, we can extrapolate for the new CPU’s but the price has been a mystery.
Well, no longer, or at least that’s what new listings on Czech and Slovakians stores suggest. Prices for the i3 and i5 locked line of desktop cpu’s have been revealed. Let’s take a look. The Core i3’s which should contain 4 core 8 thread cpu’s start at 127 euros all the way up to 170. The i5’s which are 6 core 12 thread cpu’s range from 190 to 232 euros. That’s not including VAT taxes so the prices on shelves will be higher in Europe.
Now pricing between Europe, Canada the US and the rest of the world is not always just a matter of conversion. Usually, there is a slight premium when the conversion is done, but even with a premium added, those prices don’t make any sense with intel’s current position. Sure, you actually get a little more bang for your buck compared to last-gen with hyperthreading being activated on all the CPU’s, and technically, the i5 10600 will still beat AMD’s 3600 in gaming, but the prices are still a little too high for a CPU that will require a new motherboard, that doesn’t support features like PCI-E gen 4 and that is locked. You cant squeeze out any more performance out of them. And btw before you go ham in the comment section I said the 10600 would win in gaming. Testing all around the web shows that the 8700K a 6 core 12 thread CPU with lower clocks, beat the 3600 consistently, albeit with a small lead. When it comes to productivity though, the 3600 holds its own. Plus if we do a straight price conversion, the 3600 is still cheaper. Hopefully, those prices are just predictions from these sites and the real MSRP’s will be cheaper.
